Hummus, I love it! It’s such a versatile food, that finding different food combination has been a lot of fun. When I first discovered it, I had no idea that it was made from chick peas. Like what? I love Chick Peas, so it’s only natural that I’d love it right? Currently, I buy a store bought brand. I know which brands I love and which ones I don’t. But, the idea of making my own intrigued me. I wanted to know what was inside this delectable treat.
Most recipes included the following:
- Cooked Chick Peas
- Tahini (ground sesame)
- Lemon Juice
- Olive Oil
However, the brand I buy from the store uses soybean oil and some other ingredients to maintain freshness. Bah. Before I try to find Tahini to make my own, I wanted to share some fun ways to incorporate it into your foods.
Begin by considering it as a replacement, the doors will just open up to many exciting possibilities.
Put it on your toast or use it to replace the mayo in your sandwiches. Hummus and avocado taste amazing together (just saying).
Deviled Eggs. Yes, I love deviled eggs, but try swapping out that mayo for hummus and see if you like it! I swapped out MOST of the mayo. Turned out a little dry, so I added in about a teaspoon (for 5 eggs) of mayo to add a bit of moisture back in. In the future, I will try sour cream or plain yogurt. As it turns out, I wasn’t “in love” with this recipe. But I’m not giving up.
Traditionally, it’s used as a dip, so why not use it as just that, skip the chips and give your fresh cut veggies a new taste.
Another interesting way I’ve seen hummus used is as a dressing. I like to dress my salads with lemon, olive oil, salt and pepper, so I’ll be adding in the hummus into the mix.
I’m thinking that hummus and pork chops sounds like a savory combination. What do you think? If it turns out delicious, I will definitely share the recipe. Let me just say that I wasn’t sure about these combinations. But after trying them out, I am very happy to report that I’m IN LOVE! If you’d like the recipe, please leave me a comment and I will share next week.
These are five ways I’m going to try enjoying it TODAY.
Do you enjoy hummus?
What creative ways do you incorporate it into your foods?
I’d love it if you shared your ideas or tried and true ideas in the comments below.
