This week’s Save or Trash: Junk Drawer Edition was inspired by a video that my eldest teenage daughter tagged me in on Facebook. I am often amazed by the things she enjoys watching. She is our Miss Fix It, Miss Creative Artist, Miss Inventive, and her list of values go on and on. But I felt like this particular tag was not just because the video content was cool, but because our “junk drawer” was indeed JUNKY. They’re supposed to be right? Well, NOT anymore!
Save or Trash: Junk Drawer
I know, it’s quite terrifying, it’s one of those drawers that simply catches everything. You can’t even find anything in it. So, I decided it was a fine time to clear the clutter and make it serve a purpose. This was actually a very freeing activity. Honestly and truly, I hate clutter, yet, I create it in every nook and cranny of my home.
The first step to clearing the clutter in your junk drawer is to GUT IT. That means, empty it out completely.
Next, now that it’s empty, give it nice cleaning. Wipe it out.
Then, you’ll want to start sifting through the clutter.
If there’s trash, like receipts, crushed cupcake liners and straws, baggies, trash it.
Put things into categories, like based on their purpose or what room they actually belong in.
What will you save or trash?
Finally, as you’re putting things away, put them IMMEDIATELY in their place, don’t just dump them back into the junk drawer.
What will the drawer be used for NOW that the junk has been removed? Well, you see what happens to me when I clean is that I can’t just stop at one drawer. I went through all of them, de-cluttered and organized them accordingly. There was NO purpose for this drawer. So it is now our medicine drawer. Everything is housed here, including our lint roller/brush, instead of on top of our cabinet! YAY!!!!
Do you have a junk drawer? Can you find anything in it? What do you keep in your junk drawer?
Will you clear the clutter with me next week?
