Do you ever stop and think about what you want? I spend so much time wrapped up in needs. What needs to be done? So I pour countless hours consumed by the needs. Needs of others, needs of the blog and the needs of my design teams. Somewhere along the lines, I forgot about what I need. What I want.
What You Want
Today let’s focus on what you want to do vs. what you need to do. I think that is the common misconception of the world. We strive so hard to fulfill the molds set before us that we often forget. Hey, you’re an original. You’re uniquely amazing because you’re you. You don’t have to fit into society’s misconceptions of you. You can be and you can do anything you choose to do, how you choose to do it, when you choose to do it.
This post was inspired by a short text conversation that ended with this statement: “Ah, I’ve given up focus on what needs to be done. I’ve placed those constraints on myself. Do more of what you want to do, the rest surely will follow.”
I’m not saying forgo your responsibilities. What is for me might not be what is for you. What I am saying is make your own rules. There are a million and one bloggers, each have their own list of to do’s. Their own schedule. Their own blog set up. Their goals. Each has their own level and definition of success. So do more of what you want. If you want to write 7 days a week, do that. If you want to post certain things on certain days, do that. But if you want free reign on your creativity, then embrace that. Do what you want.
This post is not just for bloggers, vloggers, or creatives, this is for those who want to march to the beat of their OWN drum. We put ridiculous restraints/constraints on what we can and cannot do. Did you catch that? WE, we are only limited by how far and wide we allow our minds to wander. Anything is possible as long as we remember not to measure OUR success against the success of others. Believe it or not, I learned that little bit from my own devotional journaling.
Today I want you to not focus on what needs to be done, but what you want to do. I encourage you to forgo the need to do laundry and soak in the tub instead. I encourage you to forgo planning the upcoming week’s chores, and plan your meals instead. Try that new tilapia with mango salsa recipe instead of old faithful rice and chicken. Binge watch The Mindy Project instead of sticking to one episode a day. Paint your nails purple and your toes green if you wanna. Put your hair in curlers, slap on the mud mask and forget about it. Open your journal and write to your hearts content or your hand cramps up. Start that art journal and make your own rules, make your own style, techniques and pages that reflect your personality.
The point here, is that you do more of what you want, vice what you need to do because someone else said that is the way. It’s not. It’s your way. Break the mold!
Do you need to do more of what you want? What do you want to do today?
Leave me a comment below. I’d love to hear how you will do more of what you want.
